Hi guys, I’m Elizabeth Dias. Everyone knows me as Liz. I’m a soprano who just loves to sing.

I was, perhaps, one of Deirdre’s oldest students. When I was 16 – that was decades ago – I got to know about Deirdre through her mum, Celia Lobo. I reconnected with her about 10 years ago. I did sing in her student’s concert, a tribute to her mum, Celia Lobo. It was an incredible experience.

I trained with her for a couple of years. She gave me a lot of tough love. She just pushed me to do better. That year I won first place in our college annual contest. She guided me in mastering vocal technique, breath control, and projection.

My biggest inspirations musically/vocally are Barbra Streisand, Barbra Streisand, Barbra Streisand, Barbra Streisand… and Whitney Houston. Both are so different, but both have technical perfection and deep emotional resonance. Both are tremendous powerhouses yet so deeply emotive.

As a vocalist, I’ve always known technique is crucial for overall vocal ability and health.

Working with Deirdre and learning technique, I’ve learned to produce a better sound, with less strain on my vocal chords. Also, how to approach the high notes and the low ones.

Deirdre, as a vocal coach, like I said earlier, is tough. That’s the only way I could hone my technique. I’ve improved my breath control and increased my vocal range. And she just made me sound much better.

One piece of advice I’d like to share: Please learn technique, it’s always the better way to sing. Technique takes care of breath, control, range, and, mainly, good vocal health.
