Celia Lobo Academy of Voice
Rise to Extraordinary Levels of Performance
CLAV continues to carry on the legacy of Celia Lobo and now as the specialized vocal division for OVIMA where it trains students who would like to go to the next level and are serious about the music and training.
CLAV stands for Celia Lobo Academy of Voice. “I started CLAV as a preparatory program for students wanting to embark on a singing career and pursue their studies at University level, and to carry on the legacy of my mother Celia Lobo, India’s only Opera Diva. It all started when I went to pursue my Bachelor of Music Degree at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines. That was the first time I left home. It was not just a culture, but musical shock as well! You see, even though I grew up with music, I was not trained in musicianship subjects: Music Theory, Sight Reading, Counterpoint, etc. like students in the west and in the Philippines are trained in, before they get to University. After my experience at University, I decided that I would some day start an organization on an international level, which would prepare students for college, so they would not have to go through what I had to.” says Deirdre Lobo, Artistic Director – CLAV. Thus CLAV was born in 2015. We began with Group Classes around the San Francisco Bay Area – Northern California serving students ages 6 years to adults in Fremont, San Ramon, Dublin, Foster City, and Los Altos. With a very structured and progressive curriculum, CLAV continues to serve students virtually.
At CLAV students are able to specialize in various genres of music including Opera, Pop Music, and Indian Classical Music. Some programs include competition & audition preparations.
